The challenge

Poetry lovers are spread across scripts and languages, and a lot of ghazal content online is badly formatted, hard to read in Urdu script, or buried among ads. Baithak was built to give ghazals and shayari a proper home.

What users and owners were struggling with

  • Script and language barriers. Readers who cannot read Urdu script miss out on the poetry.
  • Poor reading experience. Cluttered pages and tiny type make verse hard to enjoy.
  • Hard to discover. Finding a poet, theme or couplet takes too much searching.
  • Not shareable. Great couplets are hard to share nicely on social media.
  • Reading only. Many people want to hear a ghazal, not only read it.

Our approach

We designed a calm, typography-first reading experience with the features that poetry readers actually asked for.

How we solved it

  • Multi-language reading. Content in Urdu, Hindi and English with translation support.
  • Text-to-speech. Readers can listen to a ghazal instead of only reading it.
  • Curated collections. Poets, themes and collections that make discovery easy.
  • Shareable cards. Turn a couplet into a clean image to share.
